DO put your pup outside IMMEDIATLY after every meal, drink, playtime, sleep, first thing in the morning, last thing at night. Wait until your pup is actually doing its toilet before giving whatever command or word you want for going to the toilet
DO try to feed your pup after all the humans have eaten first, then only leave food down for 10 minutes, before removing until next meal, remember, pack leader, that is you, eats first.
DO gently remove if it does try to get up on furniture, repeatedly if necessary and show it, it's own bed, which will preferably be in the kitchen or utility room. DO buy a baby gate!
DO get it used to being restrained, using a car harness, dog guard, or cage.As well as being illegal to have an unrestrained dog in the car, it could cause an accident or be thrown through the windscreen in an accident.
DO try to keep it to one room or even confine to a puppy pen or 'house kennel' the collapsible cages available are excellent for this, until you have time to bring out for house training, food or play time to supervise the puppy.
DO NOT encourage your puppy to use newspaper in the house as a toilet. This is very confusing for your pup, as it thinks the house IS a toilet.
DO NOT allow your puppy the free run of the house
DO NOT let your puppy run loose in your vehicle
DO NOT let your pup get into the habit of sleeping, resting or climbing onto your furniture, and especially not your bed. Pack leader sleeps in the best places, you will be giving your pup the idea that it is high up in the pack (your household) and it could get possessive and aggressive with you and your family over the furniture
DO NOT let your pup upstairs, it has no need to be there, frequently this then starts the 'stair race' where the pup tries to get up and down the stairs faster and higher than you, obviously this is dangerous too, especially when there are small children around.
DO NOT let your pup start to go through any doors or gates in front of you.
